idea
Others don't judge on intentions but on the impact you are having[1]. The only way to know if you're doing right is sharing philosophy, through what you are creating accountability partners.
My management philosophy
Coach[3] and delegate so that my team can grow.
Shield, simplify and support so that my team can focus in peace.
Systematize[2] and clarify so that my team can become self-sufficient.
Making it real
Short term:
- Accountability: Share philosophy, create accountability
- Accountability: Collect metrics from team using Polly.
- Grow: Evaluate team on SLII for core engineering skills (App)
Mid term:
- Systematize: Alert when I'm doing tasks I should have delegated
- Shield: Measure interruptions in the team
- Shield: Fixing one-off questions by clarifying strategy rather than answering
Long term:
- Systematize: Team’s day to day functions without my intervention
If / then
- When pressure increases, then I will clarify the need for the person that works on it, and set very clear expectations for reporting and execution
