Two theories behind management philosophies:
Theory X is that humans are lazy and don't want to work. Management philosophy is then about supervising, making sure they work, scold them if they don't.
Theory Y is that humans are self-motivated. Management philosophy is then to do everything to prevent demotivation, unblock people, enable them and grow them.
Theory X and Y each have their applications. Some jobs are by essence not motivating, and siding on X makes sense. When work is purposeful, then Y makes sense.
People do their best
