The Peter Principle observes that in the corporate world people tend to rise to a level of incompetence. That is, as long as people are good at what they do they get promoted, until they reach a point where they are not good, stop getting promoted and remain at that level.
Every employee tends to rise to their level of incompetence.
The corollary to Peter's Principle is that over time, every position will be filled by someone incompetent.
The Dilbert Principle in contrast postulates that incompetent employees tend to be promoted to management to be removed from the workflow. (Although being a simple opinion, as opposed to Peter's principle which was issued from research)
