Pick unprotected pieces. Respectively, protect pieces.
It's worth sacrificing to pick material (e.g. sacrifice a knight to get a rook)
Pieces value:
- Pawn = 1pt
- Knight = 3pt
- Bishop = 3pt
- Rook = 5pt
- Queen = 9pt
moves
standard opening
- Move centre pawn to control middle square
- Develop knight to protect centre pawn
- Develop bishops
- Castle when possible
forking
- Attack safely two pieces at once
- One of them can't be moved
pinning
- Attack safely a piece that protects the king
- That piece can't move
- King moves
- Capture piece
relative pinning
- Attack a piece that protects another more expensive
- That piece can't move
discovered attach
- prepare an attack protected by another of your piece
