One way people motivate themselves is by telling an inner story that once they get what they're working on (a thing, a promotion, etc.), they'll be a happy. This is a fallacy. The actual excitement of getting the thing is actually less important than the struggle to get it, and the personal satisfaction of conquering the difficulties.
