idea

A tacit assumption is an unvoiced logical presupposition made in an argument. Such assumption is typically formed on experience and personal beliefs. The absence of agreement on the assumption between parties might make the argument apparently moot for someone else who does not hold it.

Tacit assumptions might also influence someone's requirements for proof. If someone assumes that the default setting is A, they will ask for proof of anyone claims that it is B, and vice versa.
