Dilution is a deceptive technique where a cheap diluant is used to increase the volume of a product, while selling it at the undiluted price.
Such examples include
- Adding polyphosphate to capture water in ham, increasing net weight
- Aereting ice-cream or cream cheese, increasing volume
- Adding ethanol to unleaded fuel
While often not illegal, the process deteriorates the product being sold with little to no advertisement to the consumer, which makes it immoral.
