Sortition is a government mechanism that consists in randomly selecting people to act as a decision body.

That mechanism can be used for example as constitutional assembly, legislative body, or to propose law or referendums then voted by another body, or to the extreme as leaders traditionally elected.

Sortition can be associated with consultation of experts to allow more educated decisions.

Sortition offers a few advantages:

• Better representation of the people, the assembly being composed at random from all classes of citizens
• Better conversation and reflection, the assembly allowing to discuss the issues with others in a forum format, rather than politicians fighting for their image.
