When organizing a meeting[1]:
- I avoiding creating conflicts for participants, I check their calendars first.
- I give enough heads up to avoid conflicts (especially when organizing with a larger number of participants), and to avoid increasing the meeting mass too much
- I accept that people won't come to my meeting if I created conflicts.
- I don't create a meeting on the same day unless there is an emergency. My lack of planning does not constitute an emergency.
- I always include an agenda. I don't assume others know what my meeting is about.
- I reduce the number of participants to the strict necessary
- I don't create meetings that are only for my own convenience, everyone should get value out of a meeting
- I avoid cargo cult and status quo. If a recurring meeting becomes useless, I cancel it.
When receiving a meeting invite:
- If the meeting does not follow the etiquette, I am allowed to decline the meeting invite.
- I own my time[3], I can decline meetings that don't suit me, or when I don't have time.
During a meeting[2]
- I abide to the 2 feet rule: if someone's time would be better used somewhere else, they can use their 2 feet and walk away. I won't take offence.
- I act genuinely
- I share all information
- I am specific
- I don't avoid conflict, I discuss hard issues
- I agree on next steps
